Components
The infrared remote control for central locking (RCL) with drive authorization stage X consists of the following individual components:

- Key with transponder (alternating code)
Transponder coil with electric chip integrated into key
- Three infrared receivers: front left door, front right door, trunk lid (W129/140), interior rearview mirror (W202/210)
- Infrared RCL control module

  - Infrared DAS control module
- Coil for transponder attached to steering lock
- Engine control module

The following functions are executed by the system:

- Infrared remote control for central locking
- Release of drive authorization system

Drive authorization is independent of the central locking status.

Purpose Locking and unlocking vehicle via central locking.
Releasing drive authorization system.

Design The IR remote control key contains a transponder for the drive authorization system, batteries for supplying power to the IR remote control as well as a mechanical key.
Function When the remote control button is pressed an infrared light beam is transmitted from the IR remote control key with transponder to the infrared remote control (RCL) receiver (interior rearview mirror) (A26/7) at which the key is pointed on models 129/140/202/210 or at the RCL receiver (roof frame) (A26/9) on model 170.
only
The left front door IR receiver (A26/1), right front door IR receiver (A26/2), trunk lid IR receiver (A26/3) are actuated on models 129/140 or the RCL receiver (interior rearview mirror) (A26/7) on models 202/210.
This IR signal transfers the code stored in the IR remote control key. This code changes each time the key is actuated.
Actuation switches circuit 15 ON

GF80.30-P-4003-01B

GF80.30-P-4003-01B Purpose of drive authorization system (DAS) infrared control module FBS X

The purpose of the IR DAS control module is described below:

a) Infrared remote control for central locking
- Receive and evaluate signals from lock switches 1 and 2 from infrared remote control (RCL) module, not model 129

After recognition of valid IR Signal
- Actuation of - Central locking (CL), not model 129
- Anti-theft alarm (ATA), not model 129
- Convenience feature (CF), not model 129
- Remote trunk release (RTR), only
models 140 and 202/210 sedan

- Read in and evaluate signals from mechanical lock switches (SN1-unlock, SN2-lock), not model 129.
  b) Drive authorization stage X
- Control of transponder coil on ignition/starter switch
- Read in and evaluate transponder signal
- Release engine control module via CAN when transponder code is valid

The IR DAS control module (N54/1) evaluates the transponder data received and, when valid, releases the engine control via the CAN bus.

MODEL  202 (except 202.083) as of 1.8.96 up to 31.5.97
MODEL  202.083 up to 31.5.97

Purpose Transferring content of data block to DAS infrared control module. Storing data transmitted from DAS infrared control module.
Design The transponder consists of an electronic chip and a coil.
Function After switching on the ignition, the transponder is supplied with power by the DAS infrared control module via the coil on the steering wheel lock. The DAS infrared control module transfers a password and the number of the data block to be read out to the transponder. The latter transfers the contents of the data block to the control module. If valid the engine control is released. Then the contents of the data block is written over.
Location In IR remote control key and in mechanical key.
