There are two possibilities to unlock the vehicle with the remote control key: Selective unlocking (press transmitter button "Unlock" (2) once): Driver's door and tank flap unlock. Universal unlocking (press transmitter button "Unlock" (2) twice): All locking points unlock. If the radio frequency DAS control module (N54/3) (model 170) or the radio frequency/infrared DAS control module (N54/4) (models 129/140) receives a valid radio frequency signal to "unlock" (models 129/140 also infrared radio frequency signal) the vehicle is unlocked if it was locked previously. The message "unlocked" is indicated by the turn signals flashing once. The ATA is deactivated. If the vehicle is already unlocked (selectively or universally) and a valid remote control signal for "selective unlocking" is received it its "unlocked universally". The function "selective unlocking" can be changed to "universal unlocking" by simultaneously pressing the remote control buttons "unlock" (2) and "lock" (1) on the remote control key for approx. 5 s. This procedure is reversible and is confirmed by the battery indicator lamp in the remote control key flashing twice. The basic setting is "selective unlocking" Remote trunk release (models 129/140): Pressing the remote control button "Remote trunk release" (3) (RTR) unlocks only the trunk lid.

The RTR function can also be actuated with a switch in the passenger compartment. An indicator lamp in the switch indicates the state "Trunk lid released". Mechanical unlocking: The driver's door and the trunk lid can also be unlocked mechanically with a lock. Central locking is not possible with the lock switches. The ATA is not deactivated, i.e. unlocking the driver's door or the trunk lid actuates alarm. The lock switches installed in the driver's door lock and the trunk lid lock are checked by the radio frequency DAS control module (N54/3) (model 170) or the radio frequency/infrared DAS control module (N54/4) (models 129/140). The central locking is activated with "universally unlocking" and the ATA is deactivated. The turn signals are not activated. The central locking function with the lock switches can be enabled with version coding. Convenience opening (models 129, 140): If the radio frequency/infrared DAS control module (N54/4) receives IR signals following a valid remote control "unlock" signal, convenience unlocking is performed for the time the remote control is actuated. The convenience unlocking feature with lock switches can be enabled by version coding.
